Now that Starbucks has announced the return of their Pumpkin Spice Latte, we can say that Fall is right around the corner. What does that mean? It means back to school traffic and the struggle to choose between pants or a skirt due to the cold morning followed by the warm afternoon.
There are a lot of things that can be associated with Fall, but the one thing that does get forgotten are the practical ones. This is where I come in. I’m here to tell you the top 3 things you need to do to prepare yourself for a glorious cool season.
- Stock up on green tea and honey
Sure coffee is good and that Pumpkin Spice Latte is to die for, but green tea and honey should also be on your shopping list. According to the University of Michigan, green tea has many health benefits, such as helping prevent coronary artery disease, high cholesterol, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver disease. And if you add the benefits of honey, it’ll be twice as powerful. Since ancient Egyptian era, honey has been used as sugar supplement and studies have shown that it helps improve memory, in addition, to helping soothe a sore throat.
However, like all good things, having too much can cause more problems than what you started with. Drink in moderation and you might start to notice a difference. If not that, then it’ll definitely help you to get over your cold a lot faster.
- Clean your ceiling fan
If you’re like my parents’ house then you might know the struggle of having a cold first floor and then a REALLY HOT second floor. For some odd reason, the second floor is always hotter than the first which causes me to have the fan running all day long. I thought my parents’ house were the only ones who had to deal with this issue. According to Steward Unsdorfer from Central Heating & Air Conditioning, there are others out there that deal with the issue. He states that there could be a variety of reasons of why that’s happening to your house, i.e., hot air rising as cold air pushes it, hot roof, and poor insulation.
When that happens, the majority of us who don’t have the time to fix the issue tend to deal with the heat with a fan that collects dust. That’s definitely not good because while having the window open in the Summer is normal, as Fall and Winter begin to arrive, the windows stay closed and the dust begin to multiply. So do yourself a favor and get that fan cleaned.
- Donate summer clothes to make room for the winter ones
Who says that cleaning out your closet is only for spring? As the temperature starts to dip, each one of us starts to push the shorts and tank tops to the back of the closet to bring out the scarves and sweaters. Yet, instead of shoving them out of sight, why don’t you donate some of them in exchange for some new clothes?
If you haven’t heard already, H&M has been doing this environmental friendly program for a few years now. In exchange for a bag of donated clothes, they’ll give you a coupon on your next purchase. My local H&M is doing a 15% off so it’s kind of good. The best part is that they don’t profit from this. They donate the clothes to a local charity or turn worn out items into other products, like cleaning cloths. The point of this is to reduce the waste of clothes sent to landfills. So you can continue your shopping while also helping the environment! I’ve already donated a few bags and I love it!
